LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA , March 4– The United Bicolandia Los Angeles (UBLA), an organization of Bicolanos based in Southern California, last Saturday fed some 120 homeless indigents in this city in cooperation with the LA Union Station Homeless Services.
Plates full of veggies, rice, dinner rolls and fried chicken from the UBLA larder sated the hunger pangs of the indigents who gathered at the Union Station venue.
The charitable and humanitarian committee headed by chairman Linda Anciano carried out the project in consonance with the main religious and charitable objectives contained in the UBLA bylaws. The activity is just the first of many planned by Anciano’s committee as an ongoing project.
“The opportunity to extend a helping hand for 2-1/2 hours to the temporarily down and homeless was very worthwhile,” commented UBLA president Lanie Berrei, who led the volunteers in preparing and serving the food.
Among the other UBLA officers who donated their time were board chair Tony Martires, vice president Eddie Sabocor, internal VP Gene Leano and treasurer Cora Koh.
Other volunteers were Yeye Martires, Cherry Sabocor, Rito Koh, Catherine Koh and sisters Marjorie and Michelle Balce.
