BY RIC DE VERA – Senior citizen golfer Tony Vivero, from Stonecutters Ridge won the 2nd series of the Grace/Media Fun Golf cup held at Hudson Park Golf course on Sunday, December 14. His gross score of 82 strokes less handicap of 25 (or net 57) gave him the edge over the rest of the participants. He ran away with the monumental trophy courtesy of PinozInplay and one night hotel accommodation voucher with buffet breakfast from Grace Hotel.
Best putter was Mon Carpo who contributed 35 puts to the winner and below his average of 39 putts for the three golfers in his flight. Mon was awarded a trophy courtesy of Jimmy Pimentel and one night accommodation voucher with buffet breakfast from Grace Hotel.
Kelly Pimentel, the son of the convenor Jimmy Pimentel was the runner-up with his gross score of 71 strokes less his adjusted handicap of 12 (or net 59). He also took the longest drive trophy at Hole no 13 for his unbeatable 225 meters drive right in the middle of the fairway..
Nearest the pin winners were Carlos Perez (hole no 3), Ferdi Francisco (hole no 5), Patrick Loo (hole no 10) and Jun de la Pena (hole no 17). These winners received Christmas CDs and golf balls courtesy of Ric de Vera, the event organizer.
The event was followed by sumptuous lunch at Sizzling Fillo to the delight of all the participants and media guests. This was also the venue where the awarding of prizes took place. Before the presentation, this writer took the opportunity to thank the golfers for their support, the sponsors headed by PinozInplay for the sumptuous lunch, Grace Hotel for the accommodation vouchers and Sizzling Fillo.
The Fun golf initiated by Jimmy Pimentel of PinozInplay a year ago has a unique scoring system that allows the caddy/putter (member of media) to make the difference on the winning score. In addition, this is the only golfing tournament in the Filipino-Australian golfing community wherein there are no cash prizes.
The proceeds of the day’s tournament of $230 plus the previous year of $200 would be turned over to the families of the Filipino journalists massacred in Mindanao on November 2009.
