Australia has finally achieved success at the 13th annual World Hip Hop Dance Championship in the USA. A silver medal was awarded to Australian adult team ZBoyz last August 10 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. It is the first time that Australia has ever medalled in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship, dubbed the hip-hop dance Olympics of the world.
The ZBoyz hail from Brisbane City. The six-man crew is led by choreographer Matthew Gavet and was competing together in the championship for the very first time. They were up against 77 teams from across 46 countries. They finished second overall in the world.
Lidcombe-based HHI Australian country director and MAS founder Marco Selorio was ecstatic about Australia’s surprising result.
“The silver medal has set a new benchmark and will inspire many Australian dancers to follow their dreams. It was only a matter of time before our Australian dancers get recognized. Hard work, dedication and commitment will drive Australia to aim for gold next year. This is only the beginning, but after last weekend’s results, anything is possible,” said Selorio.
