Chifley MP Ed Husic has recognised the importance of the Filipino community to our area in the release of figures on language density across Sydney.
Woodcroft has Sydney’s highest percentage of Filipino speakers at 22.9% according to figures published by Fairfax Media.
“These figures just confirm what we all know, that the Filipino community is a strong and welcome part of our area,” said Mr Husic.
“They are hardworking and friendly.
“Continuing a connection to Filipino languages also helps maintain a strong bridge with the Philippines – a valued country to Australia,” he added.
The survey has shown Woodcroft is followed by Plumpton (18.6%), Rooty Hill (17.8%),Glendenning (13.3%),Oakhurst (12.8%) and Mt Druitt (12.7%) for the percentage of Filipino-Australians in those suburbs.
Ropes Crossing, Hassall Grove and Dean Park round out the top 10. Only Blair Athol in the Campbelltown area, (7th), has prevented a clean sweep for the Chifley area.
“Chifley is made up of many diverse cultures and our neighbourhood evolves everyday.
“All are welcome and it is why Chifley remains a great place to work and live,” Mr Husic concluded.
