aBurwood Poster1 (2) (800x363)Australia’s award winning acapella singers “The Idea of North” will perform together with a cream of  Filipino Australian artists in a music fest of jazz and top hits on 20 June at The Dome of Burwood RSL Club in Burwood, NSW.

The Idea of North  is 2013 ARIA Awardee for ‘Best Jazz Album’ 2013 at The Adelaide Fringe Festival, ‘Best Live Music’ Award winners, 2013 Hall of Famers of the Music ACT in Canberra, 2011 Limelight Award winners, Best Jazz Recording for ‘Extraordinary Tale’, 2010 Aria Award winners, plus in collabratin with james Morrison, Best Jazz Album for ‘Feels Like Spring’ .

“A vocal quartet of wit, charm and breathtaking musical virtuosity.” says  Adelaide Advertiser of the group. The Brisbane Courier-Mail describes the singers as ” s near as dammit to vocal perfection!”  On the other hand Sydney Morning Herald  says, “…measured and absorbing. Like ABBA dipped in velvet.” 

They group has been to international jazz festivals, has been performing in Asia and in the Philippines in one Australia Day celebration.

Appearing with the band as separate act is Marilyn Mendez who is well established in Sydney as a singer/entertainer. She has appeared on TV shows, performed overseas, was invited to the jazz Festival in Nelson, NZ, and has worked with some of the best musicians in Australia.

Marilyn has supported international acts like Cleo Lane, Blood, Sweat and Tears.

For their part, Carlo & Miguel as they are called officially is a duo band that covers songs from various genres and they instantly wow and touch their audience’s heart when they sing.

They had performed in  Westfield Bondi, Warringah, Rouse Hill Council and at high tea parties and weddings.

Another act is that of Jessica Real who has been making music at a early age. She has appeared in musical productions such as Hairspray by Ashfield Musical Society and Mulan by The Regal Music Society. She is an active member of the Water of Life Christian Church Praise & Worship Band as a musician and vocalist.

Geoff Zhang placed third in this year’s Burwood’s Got Talent. He currently gigs around RSL clubs with the Mandarin Band. He also makes covers and parodies in his Youtube channel GZee productions and has 6.5 million combined views in his videos.

Jaden Legaspi is a young singing rugby player! He jjust started singing last November 2013. He is the champion in the solo category of the 1st Bandslam music competitionand also the lead singer of a band called “Bacon Rampage”  which won 2nd place in the same contest. He plays Rugby League for Campbelltown City Kangaroos and Rugby Union for the Campbelltown Harlequins.

Cooper J. Parr is a singing black belter! Together with Xtreme Team, he has appeared in Australia Got Talent 2013. he is 3rd Dan Black Belter in Tae Kwon Do. He performs in events and venues like Burwood RSL Club and was with FAACES HeART WORK Concert.

Chrise Cortez has been singing in choirs since 7. A member of Hangad, a Filipino inspirational choral group by the Jesuit Music Ministry in 2000, she has recorded 7 commercially released albums.

Prody & Shirley Bartolome. Making music has been a big part of this couple’s life. Prody was with the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC) and the San Miguel Master Chorale with Ryan Cayabyab. Shirley was with Agape Choir and later Prasia Inspirational Vocal Group. Their performances covered North America, Europe and Asia.
