Sydney’s newest suburb, locally known as Bunya, is nearing completion three years ahead of schedule because the NSW Government has pulled out all stops to boost housing supply, Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Brad Hazzard announced today.
“It’s boom time in Bunya in Western Sydney as up to 800 families build their new homes, and it’s great to see that one in three families are first home buyers,” Mr Hazzard said.
“New Western Sydney housing is selling like hotcakes and Bunya is leading the charge.
“Recent housing figures show over 16,700 new homes were approved in Sydney (July-November) which indicates we are on track to have the strongest year of housing approvals in Sydney since 1973.
“We are approving the equivalent of a new Bunya every week in Sydney.
“In three years of the Liberal National Government we have seen over 77,000 new homes approved in Sydney (up from 50,000 under Labor).”
Mr Hazzard said Bunya (official name Bungarribee) reflects the NSW Government’s commitment to deliver housing alongside infrastructure.
The 55ha site is on the former Overseas Telecommunication area at Doonside and was developed by UrbanGrowth NSW. It is .8km to Doonside train station, 1.2 km to local shopping and within close proximity to the M4 and M7.
The housing areas overlook the Western Sydney Parklands and has a six star environmental rating in master plan and housing design.
“Over 650 lots of the 820 have sold in under three years and demand for the remaining 170 lots is hotter than ever, with future residents visiting the sales office daily,” Mr Hazzard said..”
House and land prices have ranged from around $525,000 for a 400sqm lot to $630,000 for a 600sqm lot.
Bunya will be home to more than 3000 residents in a new community which fully reflects Sydney’s multicultural character.
“Bunya is a showcase of the boom time in Western Sydney under the Liberal National Government,” Mr Hazzard said.
