The 117th Martyrdom of the Philippine’s national hero Dr Jose Rizal will be commemorated on Sunday 29 December at Rosemeadow’s Rizal Park on Anthony Street, Rosemeadow, NSW a suburb of Campbelltown Council in outer Southwest Sydney.
The program will feature wreath laying, speeches, some Philippine cultural numbers and a community picnic.
The event is a joint undertaking of the Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown (RPMC) , and the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR), Sydney Chapter.
The one-year old Rizal Park which features a 10 metre statue of Rizal is the highest Rizal monument in Australia, and the third highest in the world. The Rizal statue was unveiled in October 2012 by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, coinciding with Pres. Aquino’s state visit to Australia.
December 29 Sunday’s guests Philippine Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis and Campbelltown City Mayor Cr. Clinton Mead will lead in the wreath laying and will deliver Rizal Day messages along with OKOR Regional Commander Mr Philip Ranoso.
Community leaders Rey Manoto of RPMC and Cesar Bartolome of OKOR join the lead team during the wreath laying.
The Philippine community choir Sonata Singers will provide a choir number as well as an individual solo number, all in Filipino language patiotic songs.
Assembly time for the event is 10:30 am and expected to be finished at 11:50 am after which a community picnic has been scheduled in the surrounds of Rizal Park which has ample children’s playground and picnic facilities.
