Nov 12 – NSW Premier Barrie O’Farrell has today pledged $500,000 in humanitarian assistance on behalf of NSW Government to the Philippines in the wake of typhoon Haiyan.
Mr O’Farrell said the funding wuld be made vailable to help provide immediate relief to the victims of the disaster.
“We are witnessing tragedy of epic poportions unfolding in the Philippines and the NSW government is ready to do what it can to assist in the emergency relief effort.”
“Our thoughts are with those in the region left devastated by the typhoon, including the many Filipino-Australians who have lost loved ones or may not yet know their fate.”
“A major emergency response is now underway with the Philippine government and humanitarian aid agencies scrambling to provide food, water and supplies to hundreds of thousands of people impacted by the storm.
“The NSW Government has joined the Australian government and international community to hep the Philippine government provide immediate humanitarian assistance.:
The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising anyone concerned for the welfare of family and friends in the region to first attempt to contact them directly.
