The NSW-based Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO) will hold its annual celebration of Philippine independence Day the Independence Day Freedom Ball at 4:00-11:00 pm on Monday 10 June Queens Birthday Australian public holiday at the Renaissance Events Centre, at 3 New Street East, Lidcombe, NSW.
APCO President Mr Jhun Salazar said the chosen schedule and venue is more accessible, more convenient along with the benefit of cheaper tickets of $90 per person.
Mr. Salazar said because of the arrangement, more old people, children and residents outside Sydney can easily attend.
Freedom Ball entertainment will be handled by the FLAGCOM organisation headed by Mr. Albert Prias, and supported by the Maharlika and Mindanao Ethnic Group dancers. Katrina Yu of SBS and community broadcaster Charles Chan will co-emcee the show. Support musicians will be the Maynilad Band and the Joven Estigoy Rondalla.
Mr Salazar said there will be more federal, state and local government officials attending the APCO Freedom Ball and APCO affiliates, community groups and personalities will be acknowledged during the event.
Meanwhile, APCO also announced the approval of the organisation’s membership with the Ethnic Communities Council (EEC) of NSW Inc. last March. APCO’s top leaders have been invited as special guests of the EEC-NSW executive committee meeting this April to brief EEC about APCO’s role and activities.
EEC IS NSW’s peak body of multicultural organisations.
Last April 17, APCO founder Dr Cen Amores and APCO director Glorina Papaiannou joined a focus group of 14 women leaders in a special FECCA nationwide project in promoting CALD women’s participation on boards and decision making bodies.
FECCA stands for Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia while CALD refers to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse situations.
